Meet Billy “Mr. Apollo” Mitchell: The Apollo’s Historian

Mr. Billy Mitchell has interacted with thousands of visitors from around the world, transporting them through The Apollo’s history and pivotal eras in Harlem. Through a unique presentation that is part performance and part historical lecture, Mr. Mitchell shares his backstage memories and stories about Apollo legends like James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, and more! As Mr. Mitchell connects the past, present, and future of The Apollo with his inspiring storytelling, patrons receive unique behind-the-scenes insights that only a true insider can give.

Apollo School Tours highlight the legendary history and performers of The Apollo, and the impact on music and performing arts development. All tours are thematic, inquiry-based, interactive, and use multimedia. They also connect to national, state, and local arts and academic standards. Apollo School Tours are 60 minutes in length and can accommodate up to 30 students and 5 chaperones per group.
