The Apollo presents School Day Live, a program that brings the “Apollo Experience” to a new generation of theatergoers while providing an excellent opportunity to learn about the arts, history, and culture.
This fanciful tale uses song, movement and imagery to illuminate 1920s history, the science of aeronautics, themes of civil rights for women and people of color. Armstrong’s performance in this solo show includes dreamy visits from Harriet Tubman, Joan of Arc and Paul Lawrence Dunbar – historic figures whose stories gave Bessie the inspiration she needed to transform into a lesson of winning against insurmountable odds.
