Apollo Presents: Respect the House – A Make Music NY Event
House music is a global cultural phenomenon but its roots stem from Chicago and New York’s underground club scene. In celebration of Black Music Month, the Apollo has partnered with Make Music New York, a unique festival of free public concerts throughout NYC’s five boroughs, to reclaim the origins of House and honor the diversity of Black music.
On June 21st, get outside, move your body, and party with Amateur Night at the Apollo’s own DJ Jess, along with WHCR’s Tina Dixon, DJ Black Icon 1 from WBAI’s The Harlem Connection, and DJ songwriter, curator, and educator LiKWUiD (Stylez) and 107.5 WBLS’s DJ Qua for an afternoon of House music and dancing beneath our iconic marquee on 125th Street.
Join us the entire month of June as we celebrate Black Music Month! The Apollo will uplift and celebrate the enduring legacy of Black music with a series of digital broadcasts and events.
Free event from 12 PM - 5 PM EDT
Outdoors and free with limited capacity due to 6 feet social distancing
