Weaving together over 40 voices, including a choirboy sentenced to Death Row at 17 years old, a Caribbean immigrant family in Brooklyn, and an unjustly jailed Harvard Law student, LYRICS FROM LOCKDOWN is an award winning multimedia production. Based on two unbelievable true stories of wrongful incarceration, this tour de force fuses hip hop theater, spoken word poetry, blues, calypso and comedy with a live band and video DJ to expose the unresolved contradictions of police abuse and racialized mass incarceration in America. For more info visit www.LyricsFromLockdown.com
There will be a brief post-show talkback. A book signing of REBEL SPEAK: A Justice Movement Mixtape by Bryonn Bain will follow in the lobby. Art exhibit will feature work by formerly/currently incarcerated artists. Organizations serving systematic impacted communities will be on site to discuss local campaigns and ways to get involved. Presented by For Freedoms, Center for Justice at Columbia University/UCLA.
