Building on the Apollo’s dedication to creating a diverse 21st-century American performing arts canon, Kamasi Washington, the Grammy and Emmy nominated multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer is the Apollo’s second Master Artist-in-Residence.
The three-year residency provides Kamasi, as a leading artist of color, with a home to create new works, develop and curate programs, support artists of color across disciplines, and also serve as an artistic, educational, and community resource. Washington follows Ta-Nehisi Coates, the Apollo’s inaugural resident artist.

If guests are not able to travel up and down steps, tickets for events should be purchased for the Orchestra level.
